Project Summary 

Perth’s new Living Edge showroom in a converted merchant building sets a new benchmark for high-end retailing in the city, offering global brands such as Herman Miller, Walter Knoll, BassamFellows, Muuto and Vitra. The lighting approach accentuates the varied atmospheres of the warehouse building, while drawing focus to the detail and craft of Living Edge’s product offer.

Tall arched windows along Queen Street present a bright and inviting entry level, where key furniture and homewares are showcased. Above, Living Edge’s commercial furniture ranges are displayed in a series of workplace settings, alongside a striking Bronzato metal-finish wine wall and burnished steel kitchen. In contrast, the basement level exploits its lower ceilings and lack of daylighting to craft cosy, residential tableaus.

Throughout,  Modular 1-10v Spektra Track Spots are discreetly nestled between the building’s exposed rafters and floor joists. Vast differences in ceiling heights and levels of natural lighting are countered by carefully located and individually-controlled tracks, giving coverage and a sense of uniformity across levels. Spektra’s zoom optics, ranging from 15-55°, give focussed accent illumination for key displays and artworks, complemented by an array of decorative luminaires from Living Edge’s product collection.

Fitted with user-friendly Philips Hue lighting controls, the Spektra system offers complete flexibility to suit the changing demands of the Living Edge showroom. Users can switch between automated lighting scenes with ease, from dimly-lit atmospheres for events and presentations, to dynamic product display lighting for day and night-time.
